Character Name: Chiaki Nanami
Series: Danganronpa
Canon Point: End of game
Summary/History: http://danganronpa.wikia.com/wiki/Chiaki_Nanami
Personality: (Spoilers for people who haven’t played the game) When first meeting Chiaki, people would probably get the impression that she is a bit slow. She takes things at her own pace, is slow to respond to peoples questions, and doesn’t seem too worried about events going around her. It doesn’t help that she constantly has an air of tiredness and sleepiness, most likely due to her prioritizing gaming over sleep. Many characters comment on her bad sense of time due to this. It's hard to rush Chiaki along if she doesn't feel like being rushed, and she doesn't seem to have any problems putting something off for something else she'd prefer to do. At one point Hinata has to remind her to go to a group meeting, which she forgot about due to her gaming, really showing where her priorities are.
Chiaki has a very unique way for speaking. She tends to associate things with video games, and throughout video game terms that may help her understand things her friends are telling her. She also tends to either end her sentences with “…I think” or “…maybe.” Those sort of things are considered her catchphrase, even if Hinata wishes she had a more confident sounding catchphrase. The reason why she is slow to respond is because she trying to figure out the best way to reply. Being an AI program, she is not always sure how the best was to respond like a human is.
Due to her not actually being human, but an AI program, she doesn’t know a lot of things a normal person may know of. Like she doesn’t know where milk comes from, she doesn’t understand how love works (yet she understands how children are made), and animals scare her because they feel warm, something an AI may not fully comprehend. This is also shown in how while she is the master of all video games, she suffers in dating sims, since she doesn’t have the communication skills to grab the flags.
At least that’s the first impression. While that is how she is most of the time, if she feels like she needs to get serious, she’s almost like a different person. She is very focused on every little detail of a scene, and does not slack off in the slightest. There are a few reasons for this, though the main reason is she cares deeply for her friends, and prioritizes their safety above everything else, even her own life. Even in tense situations, she remains calm, and claims she has never scream. Even in game the most surprised we see her is just shock at a dead body. After she gets over that and the sadness tied to it, she gets back on focus.
